Ian Dixon, Design Manager

Background & Education
After leaving school, Ian started his working live with a 4-year apprenticeship in a printing company called Boxfoldia, based in Birmingham. This encompassed all areas of engineering and maintenance.
Based in the design office, Ian worked on a number of projects designing modifications and even new equipment to improve the production and printing lines.
While building up his career experience at the company, he also gained an HNC qualification in Mechanical Engineering at Warley Technical College.
Experience & Career Development
After completing the apprenticeship, Ian moved to a new position at Morganite Crucible in Worcester. Again, this was based in the design office as part of a team of 8 engineers. The role was designing tooling for the manufacture of crucibles for the steel industry.
Ian’s next career step was to INA Automation, part of the INA Bearing group, building his experience and knowledge in a new area of expertise. He says:
“This was my first introduction to the area of designing special purpose machines.”
He then spent moved into the automotive manufacturing industry for a short time, working for a company called Supra which specialised in acoustics sound deadening materials. This was based in Oldbury.
In 1992, Ian joined Mechatronic Solutions, starting life as a designer on bespoke special purpose machinery.
His success in the role led to his promotion to the board as a Director in 1996. He has remained with Mechatronic Solutions, moving into his current role as Design Manager in 2016.
Approaching 3 decades with Mechatronic Solutions means that Ian has seen tremendous growth and change, playing a key role himself in the many developments.

Ian is a keen gardener and also puts his design and engineering skills to good use with DIY home improvements projects on an elderly property.
He’s also a sports fan and enjoys playing golf.
