The rise of robotics continues apace. According to The International Federation of Robotics (IFR), annual sales of robotic equipment worldwide set new records in 2018 with sales value of $16.5 billion.
This accounts for 422,000 units compared to a reported 388,000 the previous year.
Global Robotics Market
Robotics is certainly an international market, as businesses across the globe are using robotics technology to make their processes more efficient by increasing speed and also accuracy.
Asia remains the world’s largest industrial robot market but stronger growth is seen in Europe (+14%), the second largest market, while the Americas saw growth of 20% compared to the previous year. In fact, just 5 countries represent 74% of robotic installations in 2018:
- China 36% – a 1% decline vs the previous year
- Japan 13% – up 21% vs 2017
- USA 10% – 22% higher than 2017
- Republic of Korea 9% – 5% lower than 2017
- Germany 6% – 27% higher than 2017
2019 figures are not yet available, but IFR has forecasted that shipments in 2019 may be lower than the record level seen in 2018. However, as above, we can expect that some countries will see significant growth while others are more static.
Future Growth Forecasts
The future of robotics remains strong – the IFR has predicted an average growth of 12% per year from 2020 to 2022.

Robots, Robotics & Automation Solutions
Mechatronic Solutions are thought leaders in world-class automation and have seen tremendous growth in sales over recent years, driven in part by an increase in overseas/global shipping.
The high tech systems have enabled clients in the UK, Europe and worldwide to achieve greater efficiency, improving speed of production but also greater accuracy and more consistent quality of output.
A spokesperson said:
“Companies are discovering more and more ways in which automation can benefit their activities.
“Robotic systems can weld, paint, fix, seal and carry out a host of manufacturing requirements. They can also inspect, collate and pack.
“However, with the advent of AIV (autonomous intelligent vehicles), potential applications of automation technology can go even further, because robots are no longer static and independent. AIV can connect systems and integrate processes, transporting goods around safely and quickly while giving live feedback and reporting.
“As automation becomes a part of life, more and more potential applications are revealed.”
Established in 1988, Mechatronic Solutions (Mechatronic Production Systems Ltd) offer high tech automation solutions to a wide range of manufacturers. As well as bespoke automation machinery, the company also created the innovative Robopod®, a reconfigurable system with a standardised platform which is endlessly adaptable to the client’s requirements.
