A new report has highlighted significant growth for automotive test equipment worldwide over the next few years – with mechatronic test systems a particular focus. 

The Global Integrated Automotive Test Solutions, Forecast to 2024, published by Frost & Sullivan; says that the demand for test solutions for electric vehicles, emission control and autonomous vehicles is set to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.8% – creating $2.81 billion worth of new revenue opportunities by 2024.

Key drivers behind this growth include:

  • Increase in production of vehicles worldwide
  • Shift towards electric and autonomous automotive vehicles
  • Innovative and emerging automotive technologies such as advanced driver assistance systems (ASAS) and connected cars
  • Increasingly stringent safety regulations for emissions, vehicle maintenance and repairs with requirement for standardised test services
  • Growth in automotive connectivity and infotainment systems, wireless communications, sensors, computer science
  • Increasing share of electronics in a car – expected to rise from 40% (2017) to over 55% by 2024
