Integrated Automotive Test Solutions

Forecast to 2024

A new report has highlighted significant growth for automotive test equipment worldwide over the next few years – with mechatronic test systems a particular focus.

The Global Integrated Automotive Test Solutions, Forecast to 2024, published by Frost & Sullivan; says that the demand for test solutions for electric vehicles, emission control and autonomous vehicles is set to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.8% – creating $2.81 billion worth of new revenue opportunities by 2024.

Key drivers behind this growth include:

  • Increase in production of vehicles worldwide
  • Shift towards electric and autonomous automotive vehicles
  • Innovative and emerging automotive technologies such as advanced driver assistance systems (ASAS) and connected cars
  • Increasingly stringent safety regulations for emissions, vehicle maintenance and repairs with requirement for standardised test services
  • Growth in automotive connectivity and infotainment systems, wireless communications, sensors, computer science
  • Increasing share of electronics in a car – expected to rise from 40% (2017) to over 55% by 2024

The integrated automotive test solutions market includes automotive mechatronics test systems such as:

  • Dynamometers
  • Emission testers
  • Wheel alignment testers
  • Electronics test systems
  • Telematics testing
  • Connectivity tests

Test requirements are that results must be accurate, comprehensive and consistent – which points to the opportunity for mechatronic solutions to be developed.

Jessy Cavazos, Measurement & Instrumentation industry director at Frost & Sullivan, explained:

“Owing to the high competition, telematics vendors are striving to develop innovative solutions such as voice-recognition, gesture-control systems, telematics control units, and advanced head-up displays driving the need for robust testing solutions in their Research and Development (R&D) and manufacturing divisions.

“In the future, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) technologies are likely to be integrated to build fully autonomous vehicles, further increasing the need for test equipment in the telematics market.”
