Mechatronic Pumps Up The Volume

The Client’s Challenge

A worldwide specialist pump manufacturer conducts continuous research into improving productivity through development of new products and the introduction of automated assembly.

The Client’s Specific Needs

The process of manufacturing a nozzle was semi-automated but the client wanted to automate the process fully to accelerate production, which would allow one press to do other work.

The Mechatronic Solution

Mechatronic demonstrated its problem solving ability when it designed the machine around the client’s existing punch and die sets, eliminating the need to purchase spares.

An innovative solution to the problem of fine machining metal parts in preparation for cutting and insertion was achieved by incorporating the combined use of a hopper bowl and an auto feed unit.

The machine was also built to interface with the existing press so that the parts could pass directly through both machines.

The Results

Full automation of nozzle manufacturing process

Rate of production increased by 600% with a simultaneous reduction in defects

Downtime reduced to a minimum

Enabled switch to make to order from batch production
