Mechatronic Solves Dynacast's Double Dilemma

dots

The Client’s Challenge

Engineers at Dynacast were faced with a double dilemma when approached by an internationally renowned domestic appliance manufacturer to manufacture a brush box assembly.

Should Dynacast make the complete brush box assembly or make components for it? The option of making the whole box would mean that cycle times would result in under-utilisation of the automated assembly machine.

The Client’s Specific Needs

  • Automation of manufacture of brush box assembly line
  • Incorporation of a second sub-assembly project on the machine

The Mechatronic Solution

By working closely with their customer, Mechatronic’s engineers developed a robust and reliable solution, with several features incorporated into the design which added further value to the process.

The machine is able to handle a combination of fully automatic and manual loading, made feasible by the installation of a lifting front guard, fitted with safety interlocks which, even when open, allows the machine to continue functioning provided that the operator maintains two-hand button control.

The Results

  • Minimised downtime between operations and greater open access for maintenance and setting
  • Taking into account mechanical changes to bowl tops and gripper jaws, production can recommence in less than 30 minutes
  • Increased reliability and efficiency with a seven second cycle time enabling production of the 40,000 units a week required to meet contract target.
